Small reading groups (click to enlarge)

Teaching directed reading activities in small groups is one of the most meaningful ways to engage students in reading. The small group setting allows me to really guage my students'  comprehension, while also allowing for more sharing of ideas and opinions. In small groups, I implement many of the same strategies and skills from whole class reading lessons, but I find that the small group setting focuses and engages the students even more so.
