Evaluating Classroom Reading Materials

This semester I also learned to use the Fry Readability Formula to evaluate reading levels of books in the classroom. I used books from the classroom library to evaluate in order to make appropriate recommendations to my students. Many of the books used in the curriculum are already leveled, but I encourage the students to read books from the library during “DEAR” time and at home each night. If I am able to effectively evaluate these books, I can make more appropriate recommendations to my students when they visit our classroom library.
